BOCA RATON, Fla. - The nationally ranked No. 46 Florida Atlantic Owls will wrap their 2024 regular season campaign with a three-game road swing, two of which were mid-season adjustments. The team will first travel to Tampa for a 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 10 match at USF. This match was previously scheduled in February but moved due to poor weather. FAU will then travel to Newark, Delaware for a Friday, Apr. 12 match scheduled for 11 a.m. From Delaware, the Owls will then head to Richmond, Virginia for a Saturday, Apr. 13 contest at VCU. That match, scheduled for 1 p.m., will wrap of the 2024 regular season and serve as a final tune up for the American Athletic Conference Championship scheduled for Thursday, Apr. 18 through Sunday, Apr. 21.
It will be the first meeting between FAU and Delaware; however USF holds a 12-4 all-time record over the Owls, with last year's meeting going down to the wire and the Bulls edging out FAU by a 4-3 score and a second set tiebreaker to win on court #4. That win was over
Joao Graca, just one of two returning Owls that are expected to play on Wednesday. Graca just returned following a midseason injury. He holds a 5-2 dual match record on the year playing on courts three and four. The second returner is
Alberto Colas. Colas was a victor in both singles and doubles a year ago and has put together an outstanding season season with an 11-4 record in singles play and a 12-4 record in doubles. He has split time on courts one and two in doubles, but has only played court one in singles and is riding a three-match winning streak. The Owls are 1-1 versus VCU. The two teams last played in 2019 with FAU shutting out VCU by a 7-0 score.
Speaking of winning streaks, transfer
John Bernard is 13-1 in dual match play, 8-0 in his last 10 matches, and is on a 10-match winning streak. He is 16-3 in 2023-24.
Juan Martin Jalif and
Jiri Jenicek round out the quartet of players with double-digit wins. Jalif is 11-3 in dual match play and 12-5 overall while Jenicek is 10-6 in dual matches and 14-7 overall. The match's tone is really set in doubles action, where the duo of Jalif and Colas are 12-4 on the year. The two other pairs have been varied; however, Simon Myslvec is 12-5 in dual doubles matches and 14-6 overall while Jenicek is 10-5 in dual doubles action and 13-5 overall.
The teams are 3-3 on the road in 2024, including two losses to ranked opponents, one of which was to then No. 3 Virginia, the two-time defending national champion.
