Owls Usher Out Senior with 6-1 Win Over WKU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls' women's tennis team, ranked No. 58 nationally, recognized their lone senior and team captain Amber McGinnis prior to Monday's match. The Owls then gathered on court #4's sideline where McGinnis closed out the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) win to give Florida Atlantic the 6-1 victory over the visiting Hilltoppers.
With the win, the Owls improve to 12-7 on the year and will wait for tonight's American Athletic Conference Championship seeding announcement. WKU falls to 14-10.
Florida Atlantic made quick work of doubles play with wins on courts two and three and were up on court one when the point was clinched.
Singles play began with FAU up 1-0 and it was not long before Panna Bartha captured court #1 and Millie-Mae Matthews won court #6 to give the Owls a 3-0 lead and a point shy of clinching. Junior Lexi Silna captured court #5 in straight sets clinching the match for FAU. However, the two teams had elected to play out the final regular season match as a way of preparing for their respective conference championships.
WKU picked up court #3 and FAU's Victoria Gomez O'Hayon fought through a three-set victory to set up the final home match for McGinnis, who won set one 6-4, but fell in set two 4-6 and needed a deciding third-set tiebreaker to determine a winner. McGinnis won the first to 10 tiebreaker 10-3.
