BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 15 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team (6-2, 2-0 CUSA) closed out the weekend perfect on Sunday, earning a 4-1 win against Conference USA foe UTEP (2-6, 0-2 CUSA) and securing a 5-0 sweep in the Sandy Owls UAB Beach Classic finale against Eastern Kentucky (5-2).
Ashleigh Adams and
Brooklyn Goedhart got things started for the Owls, capturing a three-set battle on court two against UTEP's Madison Hill and Sumer McDonough, 21-13, 13-21, 15-4. The Miners evened the match at one apiece after the Owls' 4s pair of
Olivia Strandberg and
Julie Honzovicova dropped a really tight three-setter against UTEP's Katie Martin and Marian Ovalle, 14-21, 21-13, 13-15.
Alivia Orvieto and
Logan Mignerey put the Sandy Owls back in front after earning a straight-set sweep against UTEP's Adriana Oporto and Alexis Massey, 21-11, 21-10.
Courtney Moon and
Marketa Svozilova cliched the match for Florida Atlantic on court one, defeating the Miners' Krista Paegle and Paulina Acuna in straight sets, 21-10, 21-18.
Kate McLaughlin and
Mikayla Law-Heese closed out the match for the Sandy Owls, earning their first win as a pair in a reverse sweep against UTEP's Mila Popovic and Ema Uskokovic, 18-21, 21-9, 15-11.
