BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic's men's basketball team returns to the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena to face Jacksonville in the third annual Boca Raton MegaBowl. Tipping off at 7 p.m., the matchup will air on ESPN+. Doors for the general public open at 6 p.m
This is the start of a two-game homestand for the Owls at the Elly, who own a 32-2 record since March of 2022 when playing at home. These teams have met 21 times, but not since 2014. FAU has won their last five matchups.
The Owls took down FIU with an 88-77 victory in Miami, sparked by a season-high 59 bench points. Redshirt junior forward
Tre Carroll reached his career-high in the first half and finished with 24 points, while sophomore forward
Kaleb Glenn added 22. Florida Atlantic spread the ball around with 24 assists, led by junior guard
Leland Walker with 12, tied for third most by an FAU player in a single game.
- Head Coach John Jakus enters his first season at the helm of the Owls
- FAU has had eight different leading scorers in their first 10 games. Five of them have reached the 20+ point mark, Glenn doing so twice
- The Owls rank 20th in the nation in points per game (85.7) and are 13th in bench ppg (35.1)
- Current scoring milestones to watch include Walker to 1,000 career points (currently at 934) and junior forward Baba Miller nearing 500 (426). Glenn reached 250 career points against FIU, now at 267
- As a team, the Owls are fifth in the nation in three-pointers made with 105. Graduate guard KyKy Tandy leads with 27 triples on 40% shooting from downtown
- Florida Atlantic has dished out 20+ assists in back-to-back games. Walker is tied for 19th in the nation with 52 total on the season
- Carroll received the Owls' first AAC Player of the Week honor of the season following the victory over FIU
- Center Matas Vokietaitis has won two AAC Freshman of the Week honors, while Glenn and Miller have each earned a spot on the conference's weekly honor roll
- FAU was ranked fifth in the American Athletic Conference's Preseason Coaches' poll. Tandy was named to the preseason All-AAC Second Team
- Jordan Mincy is in his fourth season as head coach of the program
- In the 2024 ASUN Tournament, Jacksonville as the conference's 10th seed upset the number one seeded Eastern Kentucky and lost by one point in the semifinals to the eventual tournament winner Stetson
- Junior guard Robert McCray V, the preseason ASUN Player of the Year, leads the team with 15.8 points per game and has recorded a team-high 45 assists
- Among the team's talent in the starting lineup includes junior forward Stephon Payne III, who has logged three double-digit rebound games this season and is averaging 7.1 rpg
- Jacksonville notched a double-digit victory over Virginia Tech with a 74-64 win earlier in the season
