BOCA RATON, Fla. – Matas Vokietaitis of the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team has been named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
This marks his second consecutive honor after winning the award the previous week. The Lithuanian native continues to make his mark as the starting center in the Owls' lineup.
Competing in the eight-team 2024 Shriners Children's Hospital Charleston Classic, Vokietaitis started in all three games, scoring a combined 29 points on 80% shooting from the field (12-for-15), and averaging seven rebounds per game. He is one of two Owls to record back-to-back double-digit scoring outings. In the tournament's first round against Oklahoma State, Vokietaitis had a career-high three blocks to lead Florida Atlantic's defense in their 86-78 victory.
The Owls return to Boca Raton and the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena for the first time in 22 days to host Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday, Nov. 30. The game, airing on ESPN+, tips off at 6 p.m.
