BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team will close out its first AAC road trip of the season as the Owls (5-8, 0-2 AAC) visit the North Texas Mean Green (11-3, 1-1 AAC) on Sunday, Jan. 7 for a 3 p.m. tip at The Super Pit and on ESPN+.
- The Owls will look to break a three-game skid on Sunday as Florida Atlantic enters the weekend matchup at 5-8 overall and 0-2 in AAC play.
- As a team, the Owls rank third in the AAC in fewest fouls per game (14.6) and 3-point percentage (.320), fifth in 3-point percentage defense (.368) and free throw attempts per game (19.9), sixth in scoring defense (61.6) and total rebounds per game (39.8), and seventh in rebounding margin (1.5), defensive rebounds per game (27.3), and 3-pointers made per game (5.7).
- The Owls have been led by Mya Perry, Janeta Rozentale, Jada Moore, and Aniya Hubbard. Perry leads the Owls with a team-leading 147 points, averaging 12.3 points per game. Rozentale has posted a team second-best 134 points, averaging 10.3 points per game, while Moore has tallied 122 points with a team third-best 11.1 points per game. Hubbard rounds out the Owls double-figure scorers with a team-leading 18.2 points per game, scoring 109 points this season.
- Rose Caverly and Devyn Scott lead the Owls in assists this season, boasting a team-leading 2.1 assists per game.
- Defensively, the Rozentale leads the Owls on the boards, collecting a team-leading 9.2 rebounds per game. Dyllan Hanna leads the team in blocks, denying 1.2 blocks per game, and Moore leads the Owls in steals, grabbing 1.1 steals per contest.
- The Florida Atlantic Owls battled four quarters against the SMU Mustangs, but fell just short, 57-52, on Thursday night in Dallas.
- Three Owls registered double-figure performances in the contest, led by Janeta Rozentale, who posted her fourth double-double of the season, and followed by Rose Caverly and Mya Perry.
- Rozentale tied for a team-best 11 points, while also grabbing a season-best 19 rebounds. She shot 43 percent (3-of-7) from the field, 33 percent (1-of-3) from 3-point range, and 67 percent (4-of-6) from the free throw line, while also dishing out a team-high four assists and collecting a steal.
- Caverly also turned in a team-leading 11 points, shooting 57 percent (4-of-7) from the field and 50 percent (3-of-6) from 3-point range, while also dishing out three assists and grabbing a board.
- Perry rounded out the Owls' double-digit scorers with 10 points and added two boards and an assist.
- The Owls outscored the Mustangs 12-11 in the second quarter and 13-12 in the fourth.
- Florida Atlantic also held a big advantage in second-chance points, outscoring SMU 15-7 off second-chance opportunities.
- The Mean Green enter this weekend's matchup at 11-3 overall and 1-1 in AAC play. North Texas is just coming off its first AAC win of the season, earning a 74-63 win over Temple.
- North Texas is in its first season under head coach Jason Burton, who has led the Mean Green to an 11-3 (.786) record so far in his first season at the helm.
- As a team, North Texas leads the AAC in scoring margin (15.0), scoring offense (75.1), field goal percentage (.463), field goal percentage defense (.353), free throws made per game (18.6), and free throw attempts per game (28.0), ranks second in winning percentage (.786), rebound margin (6.1), rebounds per game (41.4), defensive rebounds per game (29.3), and 3-point percentage defense (.243), third in bench points per game (24.3), fourth in scoring defense (60.1) and turnovers forced per game (19.1), and fifth in assists per game (14.0).
- The Mean Green offense is paced by DesiRay Kernal, who has tallied a team-leading 228 points per game this season. Tommisha Lampkin and Jaaucklyn Moore round out North Texas' double-figures scorers, averaging 14.3 and 10.9 points per game, respectively.
- Defensively, Kernal leads North Texas on the boards, averaging a team-best 8.4 boards per contest, and in steals, grabbing a team-high 1.9 steals per game. Lampkin leads the team in blocks, boasting a team-best 1.2 shots per game.
- Ereauna Hardaway is the Mean Green's assists leader this season, dishing out 2.8 assists per game.
- The Owls lead the all-time series against the Mean Green, 11-9, however, North Texas holds a 6-4 advantage for contests played in Denton. Last season, the Owls won the first meeting between the two teams, 66-61, on Dec. 29 in Boca Raton, Florida, but fell in a 75-59 battle to close out the season series on Jan. 14 in Denton, Texas.
- Following Sunday's contest, the Owls will return home for a two-game stretch beginning with a midweek clash against the UTSA Roadrunners on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
