Owls Handed First Defeat by Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men's soccer fell to 1-1-2 after a 3-1 defeat in Jacksonville on Friday night.
The Owls controlled the play early and eventually scored the game's first goal in the 38th minute. Oliver Moller-Jensen sent a cross into the penalty area and Victor Claudel outjumped a JU defender to head home his third goal of the season.
The lead lasted just over two minutes, however. Jacksonville played a ball over the top of the FAU backline and GK Rotem Fadida came off his line to cut down the attacking angle. Dolphins forward David Robinson got to the ball first and he and Fadida collided just inside the top of the box. The official deemed it a late challenge on Fadida and awarded a penalty. Olivier Correa stepped forward and converted the penalty.
The 1-1 tie persisted all the way into the 78th minute when JU claimed its first lead of the night. The Dolphins once again attacked the Owls over the top. A cross into the six-yard box was tapped in by Carson Wood.
Andreas Raisanen nearly tied it for the Owls with five minutes left but the Swede's volley rang off the crossbar. 40 seconds later, JU delivered a dagger with a third goal.
"Tough loss tonight but I'm proud of the guys for the way they played and how hard they worked. We feel hard done by a few key calls but that's out of our control. We'll put this one behind us and turn our focus to UNF on Monday."
