BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women's soccer scored two first half goals and buckled down defensively in the second half to knock off Louisiana 2-1 on Thursday night.
Â
With a steady rain falling at kickoff and throughout much of the first half, the Owls opened the scoring in the 16th minute.
Olivia Bori dribbled around a defender down the right side and put a low cross into the six-yard box.
Sloane Young was there to clean it up for her second goal in as many games. It was the first goal Louisiana had conceded in three games and over 300 minutes.
Â
Michelle Horan made it 2-0 late in the 38th minute with her first career goal. The sophomore was played in down the right side by a through ball from
Drew Dempsey. With a defender closing in, Horan let go of a shot from just inside the top right corner of the UL penalty area. It eluded the UL goalkeeper to the far top corner to double the Owls' lead.
Â
Louisiana would pull one back five minutes later to go into the intermission with a 2-1 score. The Owls dug in in the second half and held the Ragin Cajuns to just one shot attempt, preserving the one-goal victory.
Â
The final shot count was 11-4 in favor of the home side with a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Owls improved to 2-1-2 on the season and handed Louisiana its first loss (3-1-1).
Â
Â
The Owls head to Orlando on Sunday for an in-state showdown with UCF. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
