Owls Explode for Six Goals in Season Opener

Before the floodgates opened offensively, the Owls fell into a quick 2-0 hole in the first half. The switch flipped at the half hour mark. A cross from Sebastian Zettl was headed home by freshman Oliver Moller-Jensen. 14 minutes later, Jonathan Lassesen was taken down in the penalty area. Tom Abrahamsson stepped forward and converted the PK to tie the game.

And the fireworks were just getting started. Just 48 seconds into the second half, Graeme Pratt played Victor Claudel in with a long ball over the top of the Lipscomb backline. Claudel's cross found Noah Kvifte alone in the six-yard box and the junior from Norway did not miss. Kvifte's first goal as an Owl gave his side its first lead of the night.

Claudel added his name to the goal column in the 50th minute to make it 4-2. Lipscomb then responded with two goals in six minutes to square the score once again.

The Owls finally regained the lead for the final time in the 59th minute. Once again, it was Abrahamsson who converted from the penalty spot after Claudel drew a foul inside the box. Kvifte completed the scoring for the night three minutes later when he found himself on the end of a clinical cross from Abrahamsson.

Goalkeeper Rotem Fadida settled in to finish with nine saves in his FAU debut. Lipscomb won the shot attempt (29-12) and shots on goal (13-10) battles.

The Owls will look to keep the goals flowing on Sunday night when they take on Belmont. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The home opener is September 1 against Marist. All home matches at the FAU Soccer Stadium are free admission.Â
