GULF SHORES, Ala. – No. 12 Florida Atlantic beach volleyball's (19-14, 1-1 C-USA) remarkable 2023 season came to a close on Friday in the NCAA Championship opening round. The Sandy Owls fell in a hard-fought 3-2 battle against the No. 5 LSU Tigers (27-21) to close out the 2023 season.

Logan Mignerey got things started for the Sandy Owls earning a straight-set win against the No. 5 Tigers' Melia Lindner and Amber Haynes. Logan closed out the two-set battle with a kill to capture the 21-14, 21-18 win. LSU evened up the dual on court one as the Sandy Owls' top pair of
Jillienne Cloud and
Julie Honzovicova fell in a tough two-setter against LSU's Kylie Deberg and Ellie Shank, 21-17, 21-12. The Tigers then took their first lead of the match, securing another two-set victory on court two as Florida Atlantic's
Christine Jarman and
Ellie Austin fell in a 21-14, 21-15 battle against LSU's Grace Seits and Parker Bracken.
Courtney Moon and
Marketa Svozilova brought the Sandy Owls back even on court three, completing a three-set comeback to win 14-21, 21-17, 15-12 against the Tigers' Ella Larkin and Lara Boos. It all came down to court four with the Sandy Owls true freshmen pair of
Ashleigh Adams and
Emma Grace Robertson. After falling behind after the opening set 16-21, Adams and Robertson battled back to capture a 21-19 set two win to force a third and final decisive set. However, LSU snuck ahead in the third and eventually closed out the dual with a 15-10 win in set three, 16-21, 21-19, 10-15
