Owls Hit the Road For Last Week of Regular Season

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team, the 2022-23 Conference USA regular season champions, will take on Rice on Thursday and begin their final stretch of the regular season.

Two games remain in the regular season for Florida Atlantic in their historic 2022-23 campaign. The Owls will soon head to Frisco, Texas for the Conference USA Tournament beginning Mar. 8. As the number one seed, the Owls will have a first-round bye.

The FAU Owls took care of business on their home court at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena this past Saturday, defeating UTEP by a score of 75-49 to not only clinch at least a share of the C-USA Regular Season Championship, but also secure an undefeated record at home of 17-0, the first time in school history.

- FAU has clinched the Conference USA regular season title for the first time in school history and first regular season conference title since 2011
- The Owls currently have sole possession of the third-most wins of the NCAA DI schools with 26, as well as the third highest winning percentage
- Michael Forrest was honored in his final home game for Senior Day and made his first start of the year. The FAU all-time leading 3-point shooter and second all-time scorer in Owls history scored 10 points and added four rebounds
- Alijah Martin continued his dominant stretch, with 21 points on 7-12 shooting and 4-7Â from the three-point range against UTEP. Martin took over the team lead in scoring at 13.1, averaging 17.2 points over the past six games since returning to the starting lineup
- The Owls finished the day 18-8 on assists. They have out-assisted their opponent 26 times in 29 games
- FAU out-rebounded UTEP 38-32, moving them to 22-0 when they win the board battle
- The Owls bench outscored the Miners 26-7, as Brandon Weatherspoon led the second unit with 10 points. FAU remains the nation's leader in bench points per game with 37.2
- FAU last played Rice on Feb. 9, winning 90-81. Four FAU players dropped double digit points in the victory, led by Vladislav Goldin with 19
- The Rice Owls are a high-powered offense, averaging 77.6 points per game, third in the C-USA behind UAB and FAU
- Florida Atlantic's defense will be tasked with the challenge of guarding Rice's Quincy Olivari, who dropped 27 points in their last matchup and is averaging 19.3 points-per-game on the season
