BOCA RATON, Fla. – On the heels of Friday's dramatic 1-0 win over Memphis, Florida Atlantic men's soccer claimed both the Offensive and Defensive player of the week awards in the American Athletic Conference, the league announced on Monday.
Â
After scoring the game-winning goal with just over four minutes remaining in the second half on Friday, junior
Noah Kvifte was named as the Offensive Player of the Week. It was the Norwegian's team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Â
Centerback
Chadi Mayati earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after playing a key role in holding Memphis without a shot on goal. The sophomore from Montreal played all 90 minutes for the fifth time this season. Memphis entered with the AAC's leading goal scorer, Lineker Rodrigues do Santos, but the Brazilian was contained for most of the night as the Owls recorded their second clean sheet of the season.
Â
This is the first weekly conference honor for either Kvifte or Mayati. They join freshman
Oliver Moller-Jensen who was named AAC Rookie of the Week after week one.
