BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Owls (12-9, 4-4 AAC) will close out their three-match road stretch this weekend as they head to Birmingham, Alabama to face off against the UAB Blazers (2-19, 0-9 AAC) on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21 inside Bartow Arena and on ESPN+.
- The Owls are just coming off their biggest win of the season, knocking off the then AAC-leading Rice Owls, who were previously unbeaten in league play, 3-2. Florida Atlantic enters this weekend's series at 12-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
- The Owls have split all of their previous AAC series this season 1-1 against Temple and ECU, while picking up single match wins against Tulsa and Rice.
- As a team, the Owls lead the AAC in assists per set (12.87), while ranking second in total attacks (2,769), kills (1,035), kills per set (13.80), assists (965), third in digs (1,167), attacks per set (36.92), and fourth in service aces (119).
- The Owls offensive leaders this season have been Arianna Beckham, Katelynn Robine, Romina Cornelio, Valeria Rosado, and Kaila Ru.
- Beckham leads the Owls with 204 kills, averaging 2.76 kills per set and Robine boasts a team second-best 152 kills, averaging 2.24 kills per set. Cornelio ranks third on the team with 147 kills, Rosado slots in fourth with 145 kills, and Ru rounds out the Owls top five with 138 kills on the season. Cornelio and Rosado are averaging 1.99 kills per set, while Ru checks in at a team third-best 2.12 kills per set this season.
- Victoria Hensley and Noelle Stephens lead the Owls in assists. Hensley boasts a team-best 639 assists, averaging 8.52 assists per set, while Stephens has 213 assists, tallying 3.74 assists per set this season.
- The Owls' back row is led by libero Isabelle Northam, who has recorded 325 digs and boasts a 4.33 dig per set average. Cornelio and Rosado follow just behind Northam, tying for a team second-best 2.59 digs per set each, respectively.
- Lauryn Green and Ru are the Owls blocking leaders, tying for a team leading 52 blocks, averaging 0.98 and 0.80 blocks per set this season, respectively.
- UAB enters this weekend's series at 2-19 overall and ranks last in the league standings at 0-9 in AAC play this season.
- Offensively, UAB is led by Mia Reese, Kelsey Smith, Asli Celikkol, and Chloe Rodriguez. Reese boasts a team-leading 214 kills, averaging 2.78 kills per set. Smith has 203 kills this season, averaging 2.71 kills per set, while Celikkol and Rodriguez have posted 154 and 158 kills this season, averaging 2.11 and 2.03 kills per set, respectively.
- Lidya Canturk is the Blazers' assists leader, dishing out a team-best 617 assists, averaging 7.91 assists per set.
- Anna Burkhardt is UAB's leading libero this season, recording a team-best 333 digs, averaging 4.27 digs per set.
- At the net the Blazers are led by Madison Page and Smith, who have tallied 68 blocks and 50 blocks, averaging 0.93 and 0.67 blocks per set, respectively.
- Florida Atlantic leads the all-time series against UAB 7-2, including a 3-1 mark for matches played in Birmingham, Alabama. Last season, UAB was lucky to snap a seven-game Owl winning streak, capturing a 3-0 match in the last meeting between the two teams on Oct. 23, 2022 in Birmingham.
- Following their weekend series against the Blazers, the Owls will return to Paradise as they host Wichita State on Friday, Oct. 27 for a 6 p.m. ET first serve on ESPN+.
