BOCA RATON, Fla. – Only three one-loss teams remain in all of NCAA Division I college basketball, and one has taken the south Florida community by storm. The Florida Atlantic University Owls, who are ranked 21st in the nation in the AP poll and 24th in the USA Today Coaches rankings, are also starting to turn heads on the national level.
The spotlight is well-deserved, as the Owls are riding a 19-game winning streak – the second-longest in the nation and the fourth-longest winning streak in Conference USA history. The Owls are also one win away from tying the program record of 21, which came in the 2010-11 season. FAU will look to keep rolling against WKU on Saturday, Jan. 28.
- The Owls are fresh off an 18-point home victory over Middle Tennessee on Thursday night, to push their home record to 12-0 on the season
- FAU shot over 50% as a team and featured its signature balanced attack with four players in double figures (Johnell Davis, 25, Alijah Martin, 13, Nick Boyd, 13 and Bryan Greenlee, 11)
- Davis led the team in scoring for the sixth time in the last eight games. He is averaging 17.4 points per game in C-USA play to lead FAU and rank fifth in the conference
- FAU and WKU met only 11 days ago on Jan. 16, when FAU took a 76-62 victory. That win marked the first for the Owls in Bowling Green since 2012-13 and the biggest margin of victory in the series history
- In that meeting, the Owls ran away from the Hilltoppers by outscoring them 42-29 in the second half
- Boyd paced the offensive attack with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting against the Hilltoppers
- Boyd has scored double figures in 10 games this season
- FAU is ranked ninth in the nation in scoring margin with an average total of +14.2 points per game
- The win over the Blue Raiders was FAU's 11th win by 15 points or more this season
- The Owls continue to hold the ranking of the No. 1 bench in the country with an average of 38.3 points per game. FAU's bench outscored Middle Tennessee by a 52-22 margin
