Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte put an end to the Florida Atlantic University softball team's season-high six-game winning streak on Saturday. The 49ers used a big fourth inning to top the Owls, 4-1. All of the Charlotte runs came in the fourth inning.
FAU dips to 28-23 including 15-8 in Conference USA action. The Owls remain in good standing for the Conference USA tournament next week at North Texas.
FAU hopped out to an early 1-0 lead by manufacturing a run in the first inning.
Kaitlyn Cunningham continued her hot hitting with a leadoff base hit. After she stole second, a
Riley Ennis groundout moved her over.
Sara Berthiaume drove Cunningham in with an RBI sacrifice fly.
Cunningham has raised her batting average from .167 to .248 in the last month of the season. Berthiaume's RBI today was her team-leading 32nd of the campaign.
Charlotte strung together some hits in the fourth inning and scored four runs, all with two outs.
Gabby Sacco took the loss and went the final 3.1 innings.
Donnie Gobourne started and struck out five batters over the first 2.2 innings.
