BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team saw their 2022 season come to a close with a No. 66 national rank, as announced by the ITA.
The Owls tallied a 13-11 dual match record, despite a steady rotation of five freshmen in the lineup and a mid-season coaching change. The 13 wins mark the eighth consecutive time since 2014, excluding the COVID shortened 2020 season. It improves FAU's consecutive winning season streak to nine.
Five Owls tallied double digit wins in 2021-22, and four of the five earned double-digit wins through the dual match season. Junior
Katerina Filip had a team-leading 13-4 dual match record, playing primarily on court two. Freshman
Millie-Mae Matthews was 13-7 dividing time between courts five and six.
Lexi Silna was 10-5 on the year, and handling court one was
Martina Kudelova, who finished her redshirt junior season with a 10-9 record.
FAU has added three players to the 2022-23 lineup in recent weeks and is expected to return an experienced squad.
Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU's Director of Tennis
"I am pleased with how our season went. Our team overcame a lot of challenges throughout the year, but always showed resilience and a strong bond to keep moving forward. Not only did we improve on the tennis part of our games, but we also improved our mental game, our fitness, and our team culture among a few. This ranking is a steppingstone in the right direction, and I'm sure this team will continue to raise the bar in the years to come."
The Owls will turn their focus towards finals and the last two weeks of the semester upon returning to Paradise.
