Beach Volleyball Dominates in C-USA Postseason Awards

BOCA RATON, Fla. – On the eve of the inaugural Conference USA Beach Volleyball Championship, the Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team was well-represented on the All-Conference team and swept all three superlative awards. Erica Brok/Mackenzie Morris earned C-USA Pair of the Year, Julie Honzovicova won Freshman of the Year and Capri Grotowski was awarded Coach of the Year.

Brok/Morris and Courtney Moon/Marketa Svozilova became two of the five pairs named to the All-Conference First Team Pairs. Svozilova and Honzovicova were also selected to the All-Freshman Team.

C-USA Pair of the Year, All-C-USA First Team Pairs
The winningest pair in FAU history has posted a 22-6 overall record this season, all on court one, and are approaching the century mark with a 93-29 career record as a pair. Brok/Morris are a two-time C-USA Pair of the Week selection and have achieved an 8-0 mark against C-USA opponents this season. The pair has a 78% winning percentage and has achieved their second 20-win season as a duo. Brok/Morris opened up the season with a thrilling three-set win over No. 3 Florida State (20-22, 21-19, 28-26). The pair then dominated at the competitive March to May Tournament, going 4-1 while knocking off three opponents inside the top 15. The highlight of the weekend came in their victory over No. 5 LSU, which clinched the dual match for FAU and handed undefeated LSU their first loss of the season. Brok/Morris is currently riding on an eight-match winning streak.

All-C-USA First Team Pairs
The Owls' court two pair has earned an 18-6 record, 6-2 against C-USA opponents, in their first season as a pair. Moon/Svozilova earned C-USA pair of the Week following a 4-0 showing at the FAU Paradise Invitational, while winning all of their matches in straight sets. The pair is tied for the seventh most career wins as a pair and holds the outright record for wins as a pair on flight two in school history. In the first match of the season, the pair made its presence known with a 15-21, 21-17, 15-12 win over No. 6 TCU. The pair continued its momentum with a huge straight-set win over No. 5 LSU (21-12, 21-17) to help the Owls achieve its biggest win over a ranked opponent in school history. Moon/Svozilova finished out the regular season with two straight set wins over (RV) Tulane (21-17, 21-13) and No. 15 FIU (21-13, 21-12).

Capri Grotowski
Coach of the Year
In her eighth season at the helm, Coach Grotowski has elevated the FAU beach volleyball program to national recognition. FAU has been ranked within the top 13 throughout the entire season, while coming in at No. 10 for the past seven weeks with No. 10 being the highest ranking in program history. The Owls earned the No. 1 seed in the C-USA Championship after finishing 7-1 against league opponents. With a 21-8 record, the Owls broke a program record in regular season wins, as well as tied the single-season win record. Coach Grotowski is looking for her second consecutive conference championship, as well as first NCAA Tournament berth in program history.

Julie Honzovicova
Freshman of the Year, All-Freshman Team
Honzovicova transitioned to the collegiate beach volleyball scene with ease, racking up an 18-9 record as a freshman primarily on court three with partner Ellie Austin. Honzovicova's 18 wins on court three is the second most on court three in a single season, as well as tied for fifth in most season wins on court three. Honzovicova earned ranked wins against No. 18 Stetson twice, No. 11/13 Georgia State twice and No. 18 Pepperdine, among others. The Czech Republic native is on an eight-match winning streak with Austin.

All-Freshman Team
Svozilova has delivered a 19-8 individual record with all 27 of her matches being played on court two in her first season of collegiate beach volleyball. She is tied for first in school history in single-season court two wins (19) and tied for third in career wins on court two. Svozilova has defeated ranked pairs from No. 5 LSU, No. 6 TCU, No. 11 Georgia State and No. 18 Stetson. She finished out the season with sweeps over Tulane and No. 15 FIU.

The C-USA Championship at the John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex in Huntsville, Alabama is set to commence tomorrow. FAU will play the winner of (4) UAB vs. (5) Coastal Carolina tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
