FAU Captures Second Place with Strong Showing at Southern Invitational

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – The FAU men's golf team wrapped up an excellent outing at the Southern Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls placed second as a team, shooting -12 (852).

"We had a great time competing close to home at the Falls Club this week," FAU head coach Mark Leon said. "First, I want to thank Chris Baloga and TJ Shuart for adding us to the field and giving us an opportunity to compete in our backyard. It was wonderful to have some alumni out supporting us throughout the week, and it certainly made a difference in our play. Thanks to Linda Hunt and her staff for being so welcoming this spring and allowing us to feel at home at your club. The Falls is a truly special place, and our guys have a blast every time they're fortunate enough to set foot inside the gates."

Leading the way for the Owls with a strong showing was Max Sturdza, who finished second overall on the leader board at nine-under par (207). He birdied seven holes in round three to finish strong and solidify his standing at number two overall, going three-under on the day.

Alex Maguire also landed in the top five at number four overall on the leader board. Maguire was seven-under par (209) on the tourney and finished strong with an eagle in hole 18 today. He added six birdies in round three to go seven-under on the day.

"There were definitely big moments for us, and the play of Alex and Max was truly outstanding this week. I'm particularly proud of Max Sturdza for rebounding from a very difficult tournament at Auburn and coming out to finish in second place. Alex also was able to rebound quickly from a back injury, and it was great to see him competing for us this week."

Jake Hibbert moved up five spots today to finish tied for 13^th on the overall leader board. Hibbert was two-over par for the tourney (218) and birdied three holes in round three. Juan Delgado jumped up four spots from yesterday's action to finish tied for 23^rd at +5 (221).

FAU will head out west next week to California. The Owls are set to compete in The Goodwin Intercollegiate at Stanford from March 24-25.
