BOCA RATON, Fla. – The FAU softball team was defeated by LIU on Sunday in the final game of the FAU Strike Out Cancer Tournament 5-0. FAU rounds out the weekend with a 3-3 record, highlighted by back-to-back walk-off wins over Michigan State.
Today, LIU struck first with a run in the third, and it was a 5-0 ballgame heading into the fifth inning. The Sharks put up a pair of runs against FAU starting pitcher
Donnie Gobourne, who put together a good outing in the circle. Gobourne went five innings and allowed only one earned run while striking five and walking just two.
FAU had its chance to counter as the Owls loaded the bases in the fifth, trailing 3-0.
Maya Amm led off with a single, then
Sommer Baker worked a walk. After
Kaitlyn Cunningham walked, FAU was unable to cash in and get on the scoreboard.
- Sara Berthiaume tallied two hits to raise her batting average to a team-leading .366. The multi-hit game was Berthiaume's fifth of the year, which also leads the team
- Caryssa Orland threw out a runner from right field trying to score in the third inning, which was her first outfield assist of the year
- Orland also went 1-3 at the dish
The Owls will next host Saint John's on Tuesday, March 1, for a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m.
