Owls Split Day 1 of FSU Beach Bash

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 12/13 Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team (1-1) picked up its first win of the 2022 season with a 5-0 victory over Conference USA foe Southern Miss (0-2). The win was a comeback feat after dropping to No. 6 TCU (2-0) by a score of 4-1 in the morning.

How It Was Decided vs. No. 6 TCU

Match 1 vs. No. 6 TCU
The Owls were unable to get past the No. 6 Horned Frogs, dropping the match 4-1. The match on court five finished first, as Maylin Bouffard and Logan Mignerey fell in straight sets, 21-11, 21-10. On Court one, Mackenzie Morris and Erica Brok fell just short in the first set, 21-18, but could not rally in the second set, 21-14, to fall to TCU's No. 1 pair. Court three's match was the deciding point, as Ellie Austin and Julie Honzovicova lost in straight sets, 21-18, 21-12.

FAU's lone win in the match came on court five courtesy of Courtney Moon and Marketa Svozilova. The pair dropped set one, 21-15, but fought back to earn the comeback victory after winning sets two and three, 21-17 and 15-12, respectively. Court four's match was also a battle, as it went into three sets, following Jillienne Cangelosi and Christine Jarman's 22-20 set two victory. The pair fell 15-10 in the third set, as TCU earned the fourth point of the morning.

How It Was Decided vs. Southern Miss

Brok and Morris came back after their morning's lost to defeat USM's top pair in straight sets, 21-17, 21-14. Court three's match was a quick one as well, as Austin and Honzovicova clinched the match's second point off a straight set, 21-11, 21-14 win. Cangelosi and Jarman sealed the deal for FAU with a 21-11, 21-14 straight-set victory on court four for FAU's third point. Moon and Svozilova earned their second win of the day as a pair in three sets (21-16, 15-21, 15-10) for the fourth point. The Owls' sweep was courtesy of Bouffard and Abby Jackson, who came back from a 21-12 set one loss to tally wins in the next two sets, 21-18, 15-11 on court five.
