BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic women's basketball (4-1) will look for its fourth-straight win as the Owls host the Kennesaw State Owls (1-4) on Friday, Dec. 2 for a 7 p.m. tip inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
Head coach
Jennifer Sullivan is in her second year leading the Owls, collecting a 9-26 record through her two seasons in Boca Raton. The Owls enter Friday's contest just coming off their second and third-straight wins in FAU's Thanksgiving Classic, earning a 51-41 win over Binghamton and a 68-66 win vs. Sacred Heart.
So far this season, the Owls have been led by
Janeta Rozentale and
Aniya Hubbard, who have both scored a team-leading 11.8 points per game. Rozentale also leads FAU in rebounds (8.0 per game), assists (2.6 per game), steals (1.2 per game), and blocks (1.0 per game) this season. Rozentale is tied for the C-USA lead in double-doubles this season, having picked up three over the Owls' first five contests in 2022-23.
Alexa Zaph ranks third on the team in scoring, averaging 9.0 points per game, including a team and season-high 20-point performance during the Owls' last contest against Sacred Heart.
As a team, the Owls lead C-USA in defensive rebounds per game, averaging 31.2 defensive boards per contest this season. FAU ranks second in the league in field goal percentage defense (.347), rebounds per game (45.2), scoring defense (55.8), and 3-point percentage defense (.224).
Kennesaw State enters Friday's contest with a 1-4 record, dropping their last three contests, and had an extended break, coming off a 72-59 loss against Chattanooga on Nov. 21. The Owls are also in their second season under head coach Octavia Blue, who has collected a 10-23 record over her pair of seasons in Kennesaw.
The Owls are led by Jah'Che Whitfield, who is the Owl averaging double-digits at 10.2 points per game, followed by Amani Johnson and Lyndsey Whilby, who are averaging 7.6 points per contest this season. Johnson has dished out a team-leading 4.2 assists per game, while Whilby leads the team in rebounds, averaging 5.0 boards per contest. Gabi Legister and Kyndall Golden lead Kennesaw State in blocks, picking up three blocks each through five games this season.
FAU leads the all-time series 3-1 against Kennesaw State but are even 1-1 in contests played in Boca Raton. FAU won the last meeting between the two programs, earning a 63-45 win last season on Dec. 2, 2021 in Kennesaw. FAU last beat Kennesaw State inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, earning an 83-62 on Feb. 1, 2006.
The Owls will play their fifth-straight home contest as they host the Florida National Conquistadors on Tuesday, Dec. 6 for a 7 p.m. tip inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
