BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women's basketball (0-0, 0-0 C-USA) opens the 2022-23 season on the road Monday as the Owls travel to Daytona Beach to take on the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (0-1, 0-0 SWAC). Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET inside Moore Gymnasium. Fans can also catch the game live on YouTube.

Head coach
Jennifer Sullivan enters her second year leading the Owls in 2022-23. The Owls return four of their top six scorers from the 2021-22 season and bring back seven total returners.
Alexa Zaph is the Owls' leading returner in scoring, recording a team second-best 306 points last season. The Owls also return their points per game leader from a year ago in
Janeta Rozentale, who averaged 11.5 points per game, in addition to leading in rebounds per game with 8.8 and steals with 28 in 2021-22, in addition to bringing back the Owls rebounding leader in
Sofia Galeron, who collected 204 boards, averaging 6.8 per game. The Owls bring back blocking leader
Amber Gaston, who collected 24 blocks last season and ranked third on the team in rebounds with 143 last season. FAU's returners also include seniors
Nikola Ozola and
Allie Tylka, and sophomore
Simona Henshaw.
This season, FAU adds seven newcomers, including three NCAA DI transfers from Fairleigh Dickinson, Kansas State, and Rutgers, in Devin Scott,
Jada Moore, and
Joiya Maddox, as well as four true freshmen in
Aniya Hubbard,
Ajalon Gillard,
Dyllan Hanna, and
Carlie Vick.
FAU returns a ton of the team's production from a year ago, bringing back 97 percent of the team's blocks, 67 percent of the team's scoring, 65 percent of the team's rebounds and steals, and 63 percent of the team's minutes from the 2021-22 campaign.
The Wildcats enter Monday's contest 0-1 overall after having dropped their season-opener against the Florida State Seminoles 113-50. Head coach Janell Crayton enters year two at the helm of the Wildcats and has collected a 6-22 career record with Bethune-Cookman following a 6-21 finish in her inaugural season in 2021-22.
In their opening contest, O'Mariyah Tucker leads Bethune-Cookman averaging 11 points per game. Kerrighan Dunn leads the Wildcats in rebounds, collecting eight boards per game and has averaged a team second-best nine points per game. Dunn and Morgan Beacham are tied for the team lead in blocks, averaging one per game. Kayla White leads the Wildcats in assists with four per game this season.
FAU leads the all-time series against Bethune-Cookman 21-5. The Owls also hold a 7-4 advantage for contests played in Daytona Beach. The Owls are currently on a four-game winning streak against Bethune-Cookman, which dates back to Jan. 2, 2014. In the last meeting between the two teams, FAU earned a decisive 85-65 win on Nov. 14, 2021 at FAU Arena.
The Owls have a short turnaround as they travel to Coral Gables on Wednesday, Nov. 16 to face off against ACC foe Miami. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. inside the Watsco Center and on ACC Network Extra.
