Owls earn five top-10 finishes at P1440

TAVARES, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic beach volleyball team competed in the P1440 Franklin Sports Collegiate Challenge this past weekend at Hickory Point Recreation Park.
The field included 53 pairs and the Owls had a great showing, placing five of FAU's seven pairs in the top 10 to close out the weekend.
Christine Jarman and Ellie Austin led the Owls on the weekend, earning a third-place finish. The duo fell in a tightly contested three-setter against Florida State's No. 1 pair in the Gold Bracket semifinals after earning wins against the University of Tampa's No. 9 pair, 2-0, FGCU's No. 4 pair, 2-0, Florida State's No. 3 pair, 2-1, Florida State's No. 7 pair, 2-0, and Florida State's No. 2 pair, 1-2.
FAU's Jillienne Cangelosi and Courtney Moon, as well as Julie Honzovicova and Ashleigh Adams also had a great weekend, both earning fifth-place finishes. Jill and Courtney picked up three sweeps against North Florida's No. 7 pair, 2-0, FGCU's No. 3 pair, 2-0, and North Florida's No. 2 pair, 2-0, and securing three-set win against Stetson's No. 2 pair, 2-1, before falling in another close three-setter during the Gold Bracket Round of 8 against FGCU's No. 1 pair, 2-1. Juli and Ashleigh picked up sweeps against Stetson's No. 8 pair, 2-0, Florida State's No. 6 pair, 2-0, FAU's No. 2 pair, 2-0, and earned three-set wins over Florida State's No. 7 pair, 2-1, FAU's No. 5 pair, 2-1, but fell in the Gold Bracket Round of 8 against Florida State's No. 1 pair, 0-2.
The Owls' pairs Emma Robertson and Alivia Orvieto and Kate McLaughlin and Logan Mignerey rounded out FAU's top-10 finishes, finishing ninth each. Emma and Liv earned a sweep against the University of Tampa's No. 2 pair, 2-0, and earned a pair of three-set wins against FGCU's No. 6 pair, 2-1, and Stetson's No 8 pair, 2-1, before falling in the Gold Bracket Round of 16 against Florida State's No. 2 pair, 0-2. Kate and Logan swept Saint Leo's No. 2 pair, 2-0, and earned a three-set victory against North Florida's No. 5 pair, 2-1, but fell in the Gold Bracket Round of 16 to FAU's No. 3 pair, 1-2.
The Owls will compete in the inaugural AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships on November 4-6 at the John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex in Huntsville, Alabama.
