TULSA, Okla. – Florida Atlantic University men's soccer experienced defeat in conference play for the first time on Wednesday night. The Owls were grounded against No. 14 (United Soccer Coaches' Poll) Tulsa by a final of 3-0.
The Golden Hurricanes were the stronger side in the first half, controlling possession and launching 10 total shot attempts toward
Axel Hofmann's goal. They cashed in to break the deadlock in the 37th minute.
The Owls upped their game in the second half, seeing more of the ball and generating several chances in the process. Tulsa would still get the better of the visitors, however, doubling their lead in the 63rd minute.
FAU had chances late in the second half to get on the board but came up empty. Tulsa added a late insurance marker with 11 seconds left.
Hofmann finished with six saves in goal for the Owls. The Golden Hurricanes attempted 18 shots to five for FAU.
The Owls return home on Sunday for another stiff challenge. No. 13 Charlotte comes to town for a 7 p.m. kickoff at the FAU Soccer Stadium on Sunday night.
