BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams are set for the 2022 Conference USA Championships on Saturday morning. The races will be hosted by North Texas.

This marks the final C-USA Championships for the Owls' cross country teams, as they are set to move up to the American Athletic Conference beginning in the 2023 season.

FAU's journey in Conference USA will come full circle with the conclusion of these races. The Owls competed in their first C-USA Championships in 2013, also hosted by North Texas. Nine years later, they return to Denton with a mission to go out strong.

Last Time Out

Women (5K)

The women's team finished in third place out of 15 teams with a score of 57 points at the USF Invite
The Owls saw two top five finishes in a field of 138 runners. Madlen Kappeler finished in second (18:51.6) and Casey O'Connor finished in fifth (19:08.9)
Anabell Reumann (19:58.2) and Jordan Stevens (19:59.1) placed in 15th and 16th, respectively
Paige Saiz (20.19.4) rounded out the top 20 with Isabel O'Brien (20:26.7) right behind in 21st place

Men (8K)

The men placed in 10th out of 17 teams with a score of 287 points
Logan Sallas finished 30th out of 143 runners with a time of 27:46.7
Bodey Miller tallied a time 28:23.1 to finish in 52nd place
Christopher Jones (28:26.4) finished in 55th place

Season Highlights

Women

The Owls opened the season with the UCF Invite on Aug. 30. Kappeler recorded the top time for the team, finishing in eighth place out of 87 runners (18:52.8)
On Sept. 17, the women finished in 1st place out of 12 teams at the NAIA Pre Nationals, hosted by Thomas University, with a score of 46. Kappeler again led the way for the Owls, this time with an individual first place finish (18:23.6)
On Sept. 30, FAU hosted the Florida Atlantic Invitational, their only home race of the season. O'Connor set a new PR in the 5K and finished in second place with a time of 18:22.0. For her efforts, O'Connor was named the C-USA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Men

Sallas led the way for the men in each race he ran. His best time in the 8K came at the NAIA Pre Nationals, where he placed in 16th (27:31.1)
At the FAU Invite, Jones finished in sixth place out of 64 runners (24:18.9)

Upcoming

Following the conference championships will be the NCAA South Regionals, set to occur in Huntsville, Ala. on Nov. 11
