BOCA RATON, Fla. – The first portion of Conference USA's annunal postseason awards has been revealed with Monday's announcement of the 2021 C-USA All-Academic Team. Voted in as part of the 11-member squad is Florida Atlantic University outfielder/pitcher Mitchell Hartigan, who has already graduated in just three years at the institution, holding a 3.886 GPA and earning his degree in finance.
Â
The sophomore – athletically – and native of Jupiter, Florida, continues to be one of the top young hitters in C-USA, batting .324 with a team-high 17 doubles, seven home runs and 34 RBI. His doubles total ranks fourth in the conference, and 24th nationally, and six of his seven home runs came in league play, while he hit .327 against conference foes.
Â
Hartigan has also been consistently excellent in the classroom, never receiving a GPA below a 3.8. He was honored on the President's List in Spring 2019 and Fall 2019, and for being on the Dean's List in Fall 2018 and Fall 2020. Every single semester since his inception at FAU in Fall 2018, he has been recognized on the FAU All-Academic Team as well as the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. FAU recognizes superior academic performance by granting baccalaureate degrees of distinction to undergraduates, and in just his third academic year, Hartigan graduated this Spring 2021, magna cum laude.
Â
The annual C-USA All-Academic baseball squad consists of 11 student-athletes not to be limited by position. Nominees must have a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, at least a sophomore standing and be a starter or key reserve.Â
Hartigan joins these previous C-USA All-Academic honorees, since the Owls joined the league in 2014 (and with no team honored in 2020):
