BOCA RATON, Fla. – Sara Berthiaume belted her first collegiate home run, a two-out, two RBI dinger, in the bottom of the seventh to pull Florida Atlantic University softball within one run, but the Owls eventually fell, 5-4, to Conference USA foe Charlotte.

FAU (7-21, 2-3) put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first and would then be held to one run on the board until the three-run flurry in the bottom of the seventh. After Berthiaume cleared the bases, freshman Kaitlyn Cunningham singled back to the pitcher bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. A deep fly to left had everyone at the park holding their breath until the fly was corralled and caught for the game's final out.

Maya Amm, who drove in the game's first run with a double, was 2-for-3
Kaitlyn Burke was 1-for-4 and scored the first run after hitting a double in her first plate appearance
