HOUSTON, Texas – Powered by top-five performances from
Sully Zagerman and
Enrique Dimayuga, the 88
th-ranked Florida Atlantic University men's golf team finished second at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.
The Owls, who posted a three-round 847, finished above No. 26 UTSA, No. 42 Arkansas State and No. 49 Houston.
"Great job to all of our guys this week as we gave it a good fight," FAU coach
Ryan Jamison said. "In the end, we came up a bit short and left with more confidence to continue to grow without fear of failure. I think we are all fried mentally, but tomorrow brings new opportunity!"
After carding a 73 in Round One, Zagerman (208) soared through the leaderboard with a 66 and 69 in the following two frames, tying for second. Dimayuga posted a 66 of his own in the first round, eventually tying for fourth with a 209.
The Bayou City Collegiate Classic marked Dimayuga first-career top-five finish and Zagerman's third.
Max Sturdza added a top-25 finish for FAU, placing 22
nd with a 215.
Alex Maguire (T41) and
Nils Dobrunz (T48) shot a 219 and 220, respectively.
The Owls will next appear at the Conference USA Championship, which runs April 26-29 in Texarkana, Arkansas.
