Owls Fall in Three, Attention Turns to MT

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team (1-12, 1-11 in Conference USA) fell to FIU (3-10, 2-9 C-USA) on Monday with the Panthers taking the match 25-21, 27-25, 25-21.
FIU jumped to early leads in each of the three sets. FAU battled back in the first set but was never able to even the match.
Set 2
The second set began the same way; however, the Owls tied the match six times and carried the lead twice. The duo of Scherine Dahoue and Aniya Harvey combined for a block, which evened the score at 10. FAU would go on a 7-1 run and held a 14-11 lead before FIU moved ahead. The score shifted back and forth before FAU tied the set at 22 and staved off a match point with a Dahoue kill to tie the match once more at 25. FIU would go on to win the set, 27-25.
Set 2
The third set was similar to the first two. FIU jumped to the lead and FAU battled back, but the Panthers went on a 9-2 run to build a 20-15 lead. The Owls' net game came back into play with a big block by Alicia Hearn, who had a team-high four blocks on the day, and Harvey. FIU pulled away for the 25-21 final and the match.

Statistically
- Dahoue was the only Owl to record double-digit kills, with 14, and she had her season's best attack percentage at .300
- Freshman Nikola Bartecka, who joined FAU in January, added six kills in 14 attempts for an attack percentage of .357
- Stephanie Young led the offense with 19 assists and MiaBella English added 13
- Camryn Vogler, who split time as a libero and attacker, had a team high 10 digs while Young and Dahoue added nine and eight, respectively
- The Owls' game at the net was more effective than Sunday's efforts with 16 total blocks to match FIU, who nearly doubled FAU in blocks in the first contest
