Owls Shut Out C-USA’s UTSA in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team recorded their second win in as many days, this time blanking Conference USA member UTSA, 4-0, at the neutral site of UNLV. The win moves the Owls to 2-1 on the season while UTSA falls to 1-4.

The Owls' depth has been evident in the three-day event, with a huge win at No. 1 doubles on Friday, but Saturday's doubles point was secured on courts two and three. May Kimhi and Martina Kudelova won 6-4 and Katerina Filip and Radka Buzkova won 6-3, respectively.

With the doubles point secured and holding a 1-0 advantage, Natalie Kallmunzerova put the Owls up 2-0 with a two-set 6-1, 6-0 romp on court three. Singles No. 5 and 6 walked off shortly there after with Louie McLelland winning 6-1, 6-3 and Kimhi's match, the clincher, being decided in three sets, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1.

Wheelen's Wisdom

"Once again, the team did not play very well, but found a way to get the win," said Caroline Wheelen, FAU's head coach. "That's the sign of a mentally strong team. If they were playing at their normal potential, the match would have been over quickly. Great job to May [Kimhi] for getting the clinch match and to Natalie [Kallmunzerova] for getting the job done so quickly."
