Owls Return to Action at WKU

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (3-7, 1-5 Conference USA) will play for the first time in over two weeks with a weekend road series at WKU (5-9, 4-4 C-USA). Friday and Saturday's games will tipoff at 7 p.m. Eastern, as FAU looks to get back in the winning column and break a seven-game road losing streak.Â

FAU will be back home to host UTSA on Friday, Feb. 12 (5 p.m.) and Saturday, Feb. 13 (2 p.m.) Tickets may be purchased here. About the Owls
- FAU will play its first two games after having to sit out the past two weeks due to COVID-19 and contact tracing protocols
- Before the two weeks off, FAU split a series with FIU, recording a win on Friday, Jan. 15 (73-69) and a tough loss on Saturday, Jan. 16 (65-62)
- FAU has started C-USA play with a 1-5 record and looks to recover from an 11-game losing streak vs. WKU
- Head coach Jim Jabir is in his fourth season at the helm with his 2020-21 team being made up of one redshirt freshman, six sophomores, six juniors, one senior and one graduate student
- Iggy Allen leads the team with 20.4 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game
- Rita Pleskevich and Janeta Rozentale also average double digits in scoring, putting up 10.7 and 10.3 points per game, respectively
- Nikola Ozola leads the team with 3.3 assists per game and a 2.6 assist/turnover ratio
- Rozentale averages 8.5 rebounds per game, while leading the Owls with 1.9 blocks per game
History Against the Lady Toppers
- The Owls will take on the Lady Toppers for the 23rd and 24th time this weekend
- FAU trails 20-2 in the all-time series with both victories coming at home in back-to-back meetings (Jan. 29, 2011 and Jan. 25, 2012) while the teams were in the Sun Belt Conference
- The Owls played the Lady Toppers twice last season. FAU's last game vs. WKU was one of the Owls' four bonus play games, which resulted in a 69-56 loss. Juliette Gauthier led the Owls with a double-double (20 points and 11 rebounds)
- FAU is on an 11-game losing streak vs. WKU and have never beaten the Lady Toppers on the road at E.A. Diddle Arena
Scouting WKU
- The Lady Toppers are 5-9 (4-4 C-USA play) and are coming off a huge series win vs. Charlotte. The home wins included a triple overtime feat (100-99) and a 65-64 victory
- WKU was chosen to finish fifth in C-USA after rounding out the league in third last year (27-7, 14-4 C-USA)
- Raneem Elgedawy returned to the team in the second week of conference play, and leads the team with 21.5 points per game, 11.2 rebounds per game and 12 blocks after six games
- Fatou Pouye is the next in line, averaging 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game
- Hope Sivori has a team-most 56 assists, while Meral Abdelgawad, who hit the team's buzzer beater in the Lady Toppers' triple overtime win, leads the team in steals (28)
Last Time Out
- When the Owls last played in the middle of January, FAU fell to FIU in the second game of their series, 65-62. The Owls had a late fourth quarter lead, but were unable to hang on
- Rozentale led the Owls with 17 points, while capturing her second double-double of the season with 10 boards. The forward also logged her second straight three-block game
- Allen tallied her second consecutive double-double in the second FIU game, putting up 15 points and 17 rebounds with three steals
- Pleskevich registered 10 points and three assists
- Ozola contributed four assists for the fourth straight game
