Owls Holds Inaugural Paradise Classic, Starting Friday

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Paradise Classic, featuring Florida Atlantic University men's basketball and three other squads, will feature six games over the course of the next four days at Abessinio Court inside FAU Arena.

In addition to the Owls, also taking part this weekend will be UT Martin, North Dakota and Troy. Each squad will have three games as part of the showcase. All six games will be streamed on CUSA.TV, and the three FAU games will be carried live on Fox Sports 640AM South Florida. Here is the weekend's schedule in full:

Owls' Last Game in Review
On Tuesday in front of a sold-out and raucous FAU Arena, the Owls (1-2) came back from a 16-point second-half deficit to tie things up with under 15 seconds left, but Miami won it on a layup with 0.7 seconds on the clock. Michael Forrest had the tying 3-pointer and led the Owls with 21, with Alijah Martin right behind him, scoring 17 for the second straight game.

Owls' Opponents in Preview
UT Martin (1-1) is coming off their first win, 94-66 over Miami-Hamilton. The team is led by KK Curry, whose double-double average (18.5 PPG, 10.0 RPG) in the Skyhawks' two matchups earned him OVC Newcomer of the Week honors.

North Dakota (1-1) earned a victory Monday to even up their season record, on a buzzer-beater by Caleb Nero with three seconds left for a 79-77 win over Montana. Mitchell Sueker is the leading scorer for the Fighting Hawks at 13.0, with Paul Bruns and Ethan Igbanugo just behind him at 11 PPG apiece.
Troy (2-1) also earned a win this week, in the Trojans' first triple-overtime game in school history, 69-65 on Tuesday against Jacksonville State. Duke Deen had 20 points and nine boards in the win, while Efe Odigie added 18 and eight. Those two are the team's leading scorers, with Odigie at 13.0 and Deen at 11.3.

UT Martin has taken both matchups in the all-time series against FAU, 57-48 in Boca Raton on Dec. 29, 2015, and 82-81 in Martin the following season (on Nov. 29, 2016).

The Owls and Fighting Hawks will meet up Saturday for the first time in program history.

FAU and Troy were longtime Atlantic Sun, and then Sun Belt rivals, having had 32 all-time meetings. The Trojans lead the series 20-12, but the Owls took five of the last seven matchups (from 2010-11 to 2012-13). The last time the two teams met with in the SBC Tournament on March 8, 2013, with Troy winning in overtime in Hot Springs, Arkansas, 81-79.

After these three games in four days, the next FAU contest won't be until Sunday, Jan. 28, hosting James Madison for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
