BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team (6-2-2, 1-1-2 in Conference USA) was unable to get past the No. 5-ranked squad in the country in Marshall (7-1-3, 2-0-2 C-USA), falling 3-0. The Owls were able to control possession for most of the second half, but could not connect with the back of the net against the reigning College Cup Champions.
First Half
Marshall wasted no time making their presence known, controlling possession throughout the opening minutes of play. At the 15th minute, the Herd set up a cross to Vitor Dias who found the back of the net to elevate Marshall ahead, 1-0. On the other end,
Filip Jauk had a great chance at an equalizer off a blocked shot, but it was delivered just off target. The Herd tacked onto their lead at the 23rd minute, capitalizing off an FAU turnover, which set up a cross for Milo Yosef who one-touched the ball in the lower right corner of the net. After one half of play, FAU was outshot 10-5 and trailed 2-0.
Second Half
The Herd tacked onto their lead at the 56th minute after a Pedro Dolabella goal, which was good off the rebound. Although the Owls trailed 3-0, the team did not take their foot off the gas pedal, looking for any opportunity they could find. At the 72nd minute,
Zach Hassell came up with a great shot, which was saved by the Marshall keeper. With Marshall wanting to add on to their goal count, the Owls held them back following several takeaways and smart defensive plays. FAU's second half adjustments were evident, as the Owls were better able to control possession of the game and outshot the Herd, 4-2. Nonetheless, the Owls dropped the contest 3-0.
- Jauk tallied four shots
- Ivan Mykhailenko came off the bench in the match and tacked on two shots
- Neil Strauber came up with four saves on the night
- Vasilis Spinos came up with big defensive stops and was in the match for all 90 minutes
