BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University women's soccer, under head coach Patrick Baker in his eighth season atop the program, has released the team's 2021 spring schedule, set to open in a week's time at FAU Soccer Stadium. Dates and times of all matches are subject to change.
The two-time defending Conference USA regular season champions will open up the campaign next Thursday night, Feb. 4, hosting Utah Valley at 7 p.m. That's the first of two home matches on opening weekend, as on Sunday, the Owls take on USF at 1 p.m.
Three more matches make up the non-conference portion of the schedule: on the road at Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 11) and at Florida (Feb. 19), and at home versus Miami (Feb. 28).
"We are excited about the opportunities to play again and look forward to the upcoming 2021 spring season," said Baker. "Our players will face a number of quality teams in the non-conference and C-USA seasons. We will have five quality non-conference games starting with Utah Valley and South Florida on the opening weekend, followed by three other talented in-state opponents - FGCU, Florida and Miami. We feel all of these games will prepare us well for the competitive C-USA campaign in March and April."
The C-USA slate begins on the road at Marshall on March 5, and the home league opener is against WKU on March 12. The remaining league schedule alternates home and away, against fellow Eastern Division teams (with divisional play brought back for this season): at Old Dominion, March 19; vs. Charlotte, March 26; at Middle Tennessee, April 2; and vs. FIU, April 9. The border rivalry matchup with the Panthers is the final tune-up for the Conference USA Championship, scheduled to take place April 13-17, and hosted by Rice in Houston.
"The C-USA season will again be challenging and we have to do some serious work on the road early, with two of the first three games being on the road at Marshall and Old Dominion," Baker added. "The last C-USA away weekend is at Middle Tennessee and there could be a lot on the line at that time of year. All three of those places are tough to play at and our home games will be difficult as well. We haven't faced Western Kentucky or Charlotte in the regular season in two years – both very good teams. Hopefully we can make another run at the regular season title, provided we stay healthy, play good soccer and stay out of quarantine."
