BOCA RATON, Fla. – One stroke separated Florida Atlantic University from one of the nation's top women's golf teams on Monday. In a season-opening dual match against Ohio State, the Owls posted a 301 compared to the Buckeyes' 300.The teams squared off for 18 holes at the Boca Lago Country Club, with each team's top four individual scores comprising the final team scores.
"It was great to be out playing again after 11 months, getting back into the swing of things and having this match against Ohio State," FAU coach Aimee Neff said. "They've perennially been one of the top-25 teams in the country, so to be able to have a chance to tee it off against them was great."Â
Reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year Justine Fournand led the Owls with a 71, including an impressive eagle on a par-5 hole. Arielle Keating, Amanda Leslie and Kim Egozi rounded out FAU's top four with a 75, 77 and 78, respectively. Â
Two other Owls showcased their skills against the Buckeyes. Rosa Barnak shot a 79 and freshman Olivia Bergner posted an 82 in her FAU debut.Â
"We're still figuring things out," Neff said, "But I saw a lot of good things today and I'm excited to tee it off again in a few weeks."Â
FAU will return to Boca Lago for its next tournament, the FAU Paradise Invitational. That will take place Feb. 8-9.
