BOCA RATON, Fla. – For their work off the field during the 2019-20 academic year, the Florida Atlantic University baseball team has earned the Team Academic Excellence Award, as bestowed by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday.
"This is an honor for our team," said head coach
John McCormack. "The guys worked very hard along with our academic staff to make this happen. I am very proud of them."
For the full year, the squad earned a 3.318 cumulative team GPA. The award is given to those ABCA member programs with a 3.0 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale.
This season, a record 429 Team Academic Excellence Awards were given out, across all collegiate levels (NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA and Junior College) as well as high school. Just 67 Division I teams earned this honor, and only three from Conference USA: FAU, Old Dominion and UAB. Additionally, USF was the only other DI Florida school to be recognized.
