The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team will welcome the addition of Marija Vicic to the squad when the Owls return to campus to prepare for 2020-21. Vicic, who has signed a National Letter of Intent, will join FAU in the fall of 2020 as a freshman.
Vicic has played competitive tournament tennis, mostly on clay, from an early age and began earning acclaim as early as age 12, earning the Slovenia Personality of the Year by the national governing body, TZS. She competed internationally that same year, participating in the Florida Orange Bowl Tournament in nearby Coral Gables. Vicic has remained active in tournament play building a résumé which includes winning the National Doubles Championship in 2018.
Vicic's immersion into collegiate tennis will be guided by an experienced and diverse Owls' squad. The native of Ljublijana, Slovenia, joins a seven-member team that will be comprised of two seniors, three juniors and two sophomores representing six countries. FAU tallied an 8-3 record and were perfect at home before the 2020 season came to an abrupt halt. An undefeated homestand was just one example of 2020 perfection, as was rising senior
Natalie Kallmunzerova's perfect 10-0 record in dual match play.
"Marija is going to be a great addition to the team. She is a doubles specialist and I anticipate she will be nationally-ranked in doubles her entire college career. Her movement on court is the fastest I have ever seen, which will be a great advantage for her in our South Florida conditions. She has great results, hard work ethic and will push the team athletically."
