BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (12-16, 6-11 C-USA) will host Marshall (12-16, 7-10 C-USA) for the final home game of the 2019-20 regular season. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. with senior day festivities kicking off beforehand.
- FAU dropped another heartbreaker to Southern Miss on the road Thursday, 59-55
- The Owls will look to bounce back from three straight losses, as they compete with Marshall for the ninth seed in the C-USA tournament
- FAU sits in 10th in the C-USA standings, just one game behind Marshall
- Crystal Primm leads the Owls with 15.1 points per game, 7.7 rebounds per game and 43 steals
- Juliette Gauthier follows with 11.1 points per game and adds 7.5 boards per game
- The Owls dropped their final road contest of the regular season at Southern Miss, 59-55
- FAU tied up the game at 55 even with 38 seconds left, but Southern Miss responded with the go-ahead bucket and a late game steal to beat the Owls
- Gauthier led the Owls with 16 points and pulled down four boards, while playing all 40 minutes of the contest for the third consecutive game
- Nikola Ozola followed by putting up a career-high 14 points with three 3-pointers. The freshman also tallied three assists with no turnovers
- Primm pulled down 10 boards and matched a season-high four assists, while Astou Gaye came up with a career-high four steals and matched a career-high four assists
- The Owls made 10 3-pointers, just one shy of their season-high
- Marshall was projected to finish 11th in the conference in the 2019-20 C-USA Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches
- Marshall is led by freshman Savannah Wheeler, who puts up 13.2 points per game, while leading the team with 77 assists and 37 steals
- Taylor Pearson follows with 11.1 PPG and a team-leading 5.3 rebounds per game
- Kristen Mayo is the third player in double digits, averaging 10.8 PPG
- The FAU and Marshall series is tied, 5-5
- Saturday's game represents the 11th meeting between the two teams. FAU holds a 3-1 advantage at Abessinio Court at FAU Arena
- The first meeting with Marshall came in 2014, the Owls' first year in C-USA. FAU won 87-68 in Huntington, W.V.
- The Owls fell to Marshall last month in West Virginia, 85-75. Four Owls scored double digits in the loss. Lotta Vehka-Aho led the way with 17 points, while Gaye followed with 16 points (four 3-pointers) and six boards. Gauthier tallied a double-double (12 points and 11 rebounds) and Primm had 11 points and eight boards. Tanyia Gordon had four steals in under nine minutes
FAU will head to Frisco, Texas to take part in the 2020 Air Force Reserve C-USA Basketball Championships presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at the Star. The Owls will find out their seeding and opponent, as the bracket will be released on Saturday night following the conclusion of the day's games.
