BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team (12-15, 6-10 C-USA) will play a rematch against Southern Miss (14-13, 6-10 C-USA) Thursday night in Hattiesburg, Miss. With the two teams being tied for eighth in the Conference USA standings, the game has big implications on tournament seeding. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Central.
- FAU dropped last Wednesday's game at league-leading Old Dominion, 60-49
- The Owls will look to get back in the win column after losing two straight, as well as try to defeat Southern Miss for the second time in program history, as FAU trails in the series, 1-6
- FAU is tied for eighth in the Conference USA standings along with Southern Miss and Marshall
- Crystal Primm leads the Owls by scoring 15.4 points per game and pulls down 7.6 rebounds per game, which is tied for a team's best
- Juliette Gauthier is averaging double-digits in scoring with 10.9 points per game and ties Primm for a team-leading 7.6 boards per game
- The Owls fell to league-leading ODU in Norfolk, Va. last Wednesday by a score of 60-49
- FAU was able to cut the Monarchs' lead to 10 at the start of the fourth quarter, but could not outlast ODU. The Owls outscored the Monarchs 12-9 in the fourth frame
- Gauthier dominated in all facets of the game, leading the team with 13 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. She added a season-high five assists to her stat line, while playing all 40 minutes in the contest
- Primm followed with nine points, five boards and three assists and Allie Tylka put up six points off the bench
- The Owls outrebounded the league's best rebounding team in the Monarchs, 48-42, while holding the team to a 36.1 shooting percentage
- The Golden Eagles were tabbed to finish eighth in the conference standings, as voted on by the league's head coaches in the 2019-20 C-USA Preseason Poll. Southern Miss is currently tied for eighth
- Shonte Hailes was named to the eight-person C-USA Preseason Team. She averages 16.8 points per game, but has sat out the past month due to injury
- Respect Leaphart follows by averaging 14.5 PPG and has a team-leading 6.3 rebounds per game
- Daishai Almond leads the way with 107 assists on the year, while Alarie Mayze has 49 steals
- Thursday night represents the eighth meeting between the two teams, second this year
- FAU trails Southern Miss 1-6 in a series that began on Feb. 22, 2014, which resulted in a 78-70 loss at home
- The Owls will look for their first road win against the Golden Eagles. FAU's lone win over the squad came in Jim Jabir's first year at the helm in 2018, where the Owls won, 89-74
- FAU fell to Southern Miss in a heartbreaker by a score of 71-67 last month at FAU Arena. The Owls were led by Primm, who put up 23 points and seven rebounds, while Astou Gaye produced 12 points, four boards and three blocks
