BOCA RATON, Fla. – Hitting .500 while helping to lead the Florida Atlantic University baseball team to a 4-0 week earned sophomore Mitchell Hartigan Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week honors in the league's announcement on Monday.
Â
Hartigan was on base at least twice in every Owls' game this week, all four FAU victories to push the team to 7-0 on the year. He hit a blistering .500 (7-for-14) with four extra bases hits – three doubles and a triple – got on base at a clip of .579, and slugged .857. The sophomore knocked in five and scored six runs.
Â
Against FGCU on Tuesday, he had two doubles, knocked in a run, and came in to close out the ninth with his first collegiate save. In Friday's opener against Binghamton, he hit a walkoff sacrifice fly to complete a 9-8 comeback win (the Owls were down 8-2 entering the eighth). In total in that game, he was 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. In the Sunday doubleheader sweep, he began the day by going 2-for-4 with a walk, scored two runs and knocked in a run; in the nightcap, was 1-for-3 with a double, walked twice, scored twice and posted another RBI. To cap it off, he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to seal the win.
Â
The Jupiter, Florida native has reached base in all seven games this year and has five multi-hit affairs, with a ridiculous season OPS (on-base percentage + slugging) to this point of 1.420. The Owls are back in action this upcoming weekend in Tallahassee when they face both Texas Tech and Florida State at Dick Howser Stadium.
