BOCA RATON, Fla. – Alexandra "Lexa" Silna, who has been ranked as high as No. 226 in the world among junior tennis players, has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to play tennis for the Florida Atlantic University Owls.
Head Coach Caroline Wheelen
"I can't wait for Lexa to join the squad in the Fall of 2021. The moment she and I spoke, there was a connection. We have the same goals and she wants to work hard to achieve them. Lexa doesn't want to just go through the motions. She wants more for herself, and training at FAU's facility, less than two miles from the beach, fits into the plan. Lexa asks what we are doing in practice and what she can do to be ready to jump right into our daily routine in the fall. As an ultra-trail hobbyist, I'm sure she has developed the stamina and mental focus that will allow her to jump right in with the team and I'm excited to see how she uses that against her opponents."
Silna's individual focus has pushed her to a third place national championship singles' finish and third place doubles U18 finish at the Paradubicka Junior Women's Championship. She was a runner up at the ITFG2 Villach and a winner of the ITF G4 Singles and Doubles Championship. Her highest U18 rank was No. 7 and No. 3 for her age group.
"I have been connected to South Florida since my great grandmother lived and worked more than 20 years in Boca Raton," said Silna. "I'm grateful I could choose to study at FAU. I believe she would be proud of me, not just because I chose the same place to live but for doing what I love in a place that I love."
