Get to Know Tuesday: Blake Dean

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team brings back 17 returners and adds 10 newcomers to the 2020-21 squad. Throughout the offseason, we will be getting to know an Owl each week leading up to the first spring game. This week, we will get to know Blake Dean.

The forward is coming off his sophomore season having scored a goal and assist for three points on eight shots. Dean played in all 16 games, while drawing the start in five of those matches. The Englewood, Florida native tallied his first career game-winning goal last season, finding the net in the 76th minutes in the Owls' 2-1 victory over Jacksonville.

Q: How did it feel to help last year's team make history by qualifying for the program's first Conference USA Tournament?
A: It was a crazy ride all year through the ups and downs and to be able to be a part of history here at the program is very special.

Q: Describe what went through your head after being the hero and scoring the game-winning goal against Jacksonville in that 2-1 decision last year?
A: It was my first start of the season and I wanted to make it a memorable one and put my mark on that game. After the goal, I don't remember much except carrying Ivan [Mykhailenko] on my back once I ran to the corner flag and he was screaming "you're the King of Boca."

Q: What goals do you have for your junior season?
A: I want to lead the team in assists and make the All-Conference team. I want to help this team reach the NCAA tournament and win the conference.

Q: Why did you decide to stay in Florida and play at FAU?
A: I always wanted to stay close to home, but not too close. Once I took my visit here I knew this is where I wanted to ball.

Q: If you were stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean and could only bring two teammates with you, who would they be and why?
A: Omer [Priyov] and Coach Joey [Worthen]… I just know we would survive.

Q: If you could switch places with a celebrity for the day, who would it be?
A: Neymar

Q: Which do you prefer: Twitter or Instagram?
A: Instagram

Q: What is it like playing in Paradise?
A: It is rewarding and there is no other place I would rather be.
