BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's basketball team will make its first Conference USA road trip of the season this weekend, traveling to Rice and North Texas on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
Last Week: The Owls (10-5, 2-0 C-USA) won both of its games last week, defeating UTSA 79-64 on Thursday night and using a late comeback to beat UTEP 59-56 on Saturday. With the win, FAU is 2-0 in conference play for the first time 2010-11, when it was a member of the Sun Belt Conference
About Rice: The Texas version of the Owls (8-7, 0-2 C-USA) have lost three games in a row, including their first two C-USA contests to Marshall and WKU. Rice features one of the most diverse offensive attacks in the conference, featuring four players averaging at 10 points per game. Sophomore guard Trey Murphy III leads the team with at 13.4 points per game, while classmate Drew Peterson averages 10.5 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds per outing.
About North Texas: The Mean Green (7-8, 1-1 C-USA) split its road trip to WKU and Marshall, losing to the Hilltoppers on Thursday before defeating the Thundering Herd on Saturday. NT has won three home games in a row. Sophomore guard Umoja Gibson is the team's leading scorer at 14.1 per contest, while Javion Smart is second with 10.9 per game.
History: FAU trails Rice 4-3 in the all-time series. FAU won last year's meeting 60-41 in Boca Raton.
Karlis Silins had 10 points and five rebounds in the victory.
North Texas holds a 12-6 lead in the all-time series with FAU. The Owls won both of last year's meetings, beating the Mean Green 57-47 on Feb. 14 in Boca Raton, then winning 60-54 in Denton on Feb. 28. It was the Owls' first win in Denton in over eight years.
Richardson Maitre posted 15 points and four rebounds.
