Owls Surpass 3.0 GPA for Ninth Consecutive Semester

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University student-athletes tallied their ninth consecutive semester with an overall department grade point average above a 3.0 during the fall of 2019.

"Student-athlete success is our number one priority," Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White said. "We strive to prepare young people for success academically and in life as future leaders. I'm very proud of our student-athletes for their hard work and the culture of academic achievement they've created. I'm also grateful to our coaches and academic staff, and our university faculty and staff, for and their tireless commitment to FAU students." Â

The Owls were led by women's golf, which posted a 3.887 GPA, saw every member post at least a 3.5, and had four earn a perfect 4.0 GPA. In addition to their success in the classroom, the women's golf team was also enjoying success on the course, recording its most competitive fall season to date.

A total of 23 student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA (noted below with a ^) and were named to the President's List, with 41 recognized as being on the Dean's List (indicated with a *). Four additional student-athletes earned a 4.0 but are either in graduate school or were not carrying a full-time load while completing their degrees. There were six males and 17 females who achieved a perfect score. A total of 122 males and 133 females were above the 3.0 mark.
In total, 58.6 percent of FAU student-athletes recorded a 3.0 GPA or better in the fall of 2019, the highest percentage for the Owls in the last three fall terms. Every women's team was above the mark while the men's side saw baseball, men's cross country, men's golf, and men's soccer earn a 3.0 GPA or better. In total, 14 teams posted a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The University recognizes superior academic performance at the end of each semester by the publication of a Dean's List for each college of the university. To be included in this list, an undergraduate student must complete a full-time load (at least 12 credits) with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and must rank in the upper 10 percent of the students enrolled in the college. The selection of Dean's List students is based on grades reported on the official grade reporting date for each semester. No changes are made to the list as a result of grade changes and removal of "I" grades. Grades of "AU," "NC," "NR," "P," "S" and "U" are not used in determining eligibility for the Dean's List.
