Kappeler, Jalon Claim First FAU Players of the Week Titles for 2019-20 Athletic Year

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University athletic department has recognized cross country's Madlen Kappeler and Hagay Jalon from men's soccer as student-athletes of the week.
Kappeler kicked off her first race in an FAU uniform on a high note at the FAU Cross Country Invitational on Friday night. The sophomore finished the 5K with a time of 18:17.71, which was more than enough to clinch the women's individual title, while capturing the 10th fastest time in FAU history. With Kappeler's first-place finish, the Owls tallied their sixth consecutive victory at the FAU Invitational and did so in dominating fashion by 44 points.
The men's soccer team took down No. 17 James Madison, 1-0, thanks to a shutout by Jalon. The redshirt senior goalkeeper was unstoppable on Friday night, as he was able to lead the Owls open the season with a shutout for the first time since 2002. With five saves on the night, Jalon captured his third career shutout, as well.
Kappeler and cross country will travel to Gainesville, Florida for the Gator Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 a.m.
Men's soccer will look to keep the momentum rolling as they face another test against Louisville on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at FAU Soccer Stadium. Live stats are available here, while the live streamed can be accessed here.
