DALLAS – The Florida Atlantic University softball team had four players recognized to the All-Conference USA Team, as announced by the league Tuesday.
Samantha Lageyre (IF),
Fayth Davis (OF) and
Mia Olson (DP/utility) clinched spots on the C-USA Second Team, while
Skylar Whitty (P) was an All-Freshman Team choice. Each of the four recipients are first-time All-Conference selections.
Â
As the everyday shortstop, Lageyre started in 47 games this season, while batting .300 (.342 in C-USA play) with eight doubles, a team-leading three triples and 30 RBI. The senior was a perfect 15-15 in stolen bases to help her move up to fifth in school history in career steels with 47. Lageyre had 14 multi-hit games, three perfect performances at the plate and 108 assists this season, which was third most in C-USA. The Miami native stepped up in crucial moments for the team this season, such as delivering a walk-off RBI single against St. John's and scoring the game-winning run versus Charlotte.
Â
Davis was unstoppable at the plate after missing all of last season due to injury. The junior led the team in batting average at .389 (.400 in C-USA play), which was third best in the conference and was on a career-high nine-game hitting streak in the final leg of the season. Davis was third in C-USA in doubles (15), while also capturing two home runs, 12 RBI, a .593 slugging percentage and a .457 on-base percentage. As an outfielder, Davis threw out five runners at home this season in her 43 starts at right field.
Â
Olson did a lot of damage at the plate, batting .314 with 48 hits, nine doubles and a team-leading 41 RBI. The senior made history with her 11 home runs this season, which was tied for seventh in C-USA. Olson is now third in school history in career home runs with 22 on her career and seventh in career slugging percentage at .474. The Orlando, Florida native delivered the game-winning RBI single on her senior night against Charlotte and started in all of the Owls' 50 games either at pitcher or designated player.
Â
Whitty had a stellar freshman campaign in the circle to earn a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman Team. The pitcher posted an 8-6 record with a 3.15 ERA and 54 strikeouts over 102.1 innings pitched. In her first career start in the Owls' 1-0 victory over Virginia, Whitty pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits, one walk and capturing seven strikeouts. The freshman would go on to pitch eight complete games with two shutouts this season.
Â
The Owls will be back in 2020 to celebrate the 26th season of the program under direction of head coach
Joan Joyce. FAU will be returning six starters, including Davis and Whitty, and will be welcoming several new faces as well. For offseason news and other important FAU softball updates, follow along on Twitter
