Palmer, Schneider Recognized as Players of the Week

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University athletic department has recognized Madisyn Palmer of softball and Zach Schneider of baseball as the Players of the Week. This is the first award for both student-athletes this season.

Palmer had quite a productive week for the Owls, which began during Wednesday's doubleheader at Florida Gulf Coast, where the senior delivered four hits, two runs and two stolen bases between the two games. In FAU's first game of their doubleheader against FIU on Saturday, Palmer slapped a clutch RBI single to elevate the Owls to a 5-2 victory. Palmer captured seven hits, four runs scored, three RBI and six stolen bases in the Owls' three-game series against the Panthers. The New Port Richey, Florida native matched a season- and career-high three hits in two consecutive games to elevate her season batting average to .313. The outfielder also did not commit an error in any of the five games.

Senior closer Schneider put his versatility on display, as he helped the Owls close out two of their four wins this past week. Despite throwing six shutout innings the previous Sunday, Schneider came back in the midweek win over Miami to close out the ninth inning and capture his seventh save of the season, which is tied for first in Conference USA. In Saturday's extra-inning affair, Schneider was called on for multiple innings again, as he threw five scoreless frames and allowed just three hits and zero walks, while adding four strikeouts in FAU's 10-6 win over Charlotte. Over his past three outings, Schneider has pitched 12 innings of one-run baseball with a 10:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Palmer and the softball team will be back at home this weekend to face Middle Tennessee on Saturday for a 4 p.m. doubleheader. Live stats can be accessed here and the live stream can be viewed here.
