Kudelova and Kallmunzerova Earn C-USA Tennis Honors

The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team welcomed five members to the squad the first week of January 2019. Three months later, freshman Martina Kudelova and sophomore Natalie Kallmunzerova guided the Owls to a 10-8 record, a Conference USA semifinal berth for the first time since 2014, and on Friday, the duo was recognized as two of the league's top players.

Kudelova - Nationally - ranked No. 78 – C-USA Freshman of the Year, C-USA First Team Singles, C-USA All-Freshman

Joined the team January 4, 2019 … first match was January 11 … played all but her first two matches at No. 1 … finished the year with a 13-4 overall mark, with one tournament win and a 12-4 dual match record … won her last eight matches … played three ranked individuals and posted a 2-1 record against … first was a 6-2, 6-1 loss to the nation's No. 7 player after being in the country two weeks … followed that with a three-set win over No. 42 Syracuse player in mid-March and straight-set win over No. 70 Rice opponent at the C-USA Championship … in C-USA Championship play, her first match was one game short of a win (6-1, 5-4) and she captured both of the next two matches in straight sets … led the team to its first C-USA Championship semifinal match since 2015 … as a doubles player ,built a 10-6 record with three different partners and then solidified a team with May Kimhi, building a 7-5 dual match record together … played on both courts 2 and 3 … were 5-2 on court No. 3 and were 6-4 in their last 10 matches … had one final score against a ranked opponent, a 6-1 loss to No. 72 ranked doubles team … were 2-1 at the C-USA Championship … first match together was a 7-5 loss to FIU … they followed that up with a 6-0 win versus UNF which began to solidify their paring … duo defeated WKU in the C-USA Championship first round 6-0 and defeated Charlotte 7-6 (7-4) to move into the semifinal round.

Kallmunzerova – C-USA Second Team Singles

After a short FAU stint in the fall, she left to help her family … returned in January in shape and ready to challenge the lineup … began the season on court No. 5 for three matches, moved to No. 4 for two matches, then No. 3, then No. 2 for several and also played one more at No. 4 …finished the season at No. 3 … no matter what court, every point is a fight … she had three matches that needed a third set, only one was finished and it was a win … six of her last 10 matches were unfinished while holding leads in four … tallied an 8-5 record, 7-5 in dual match play … was 5-0 at No. 3 and 2-1 at No. 4 … ended her sophomore season with a three-match win streak … at the C-USA Tournament, she held the lead in her first two matches, but the matches were unfinished … she defeated Rice opponent 6-3, 6-3 in her third match, the semifinals … … was 6-5 in doubles play, competing with two different partners.

"Natalie is a fighter on court and I can honestly say that she didn't give on single point away. Natalie takes a lot of pride in her tennis and her results show it. Natalie's transition as a transfer has been smooth and she is a dream player to have representing FAU tennis."
