Martina Kudelova, the reigning Conference USA Athlete of the Week, led Florida Atlantic University to a 4-0 victory over Long Island-Brooklyn (5-7) on Thursday morning.
The Owls (6-7) took the doubles point in less than 40 minutes and had wrapped up the match in just over 1:30 of play, all good for a team that is closing out two weeks of nearly daily play. The Owls have just three matches remaining in the regular season before preparing for the C-USA Championship, set for April 16-20.
"FAU women's tennis played intelligent tennis," said Marcy Cava, FAU's head coach. "Each time they went up to serve they had a plan. Each day this team interacts and competes, they get tougher!"
Notable
- Jemi Aguilar and Natalia Boltinskaya made quick work of their doubles opponent on court 1 while May Kimhi and Martina Kudelova quickly followed on court 3 to win the doubles point for FAU. On court 2 the team of Barbora Palcatova and Natalie Kallmunzerova were just a game behind, but didn't finish their match
- Kudelova was the first to take her singles match, on court 1, and did so without relinquishing a game
- Holding a 2-0 lead, courts 3 and 4 were quick to follow Kudelova with Kimhi winning on court 4 and Boltinskaya taking her match on court 3. Against Kimhi and Boltiskaya, LIU-Brooklyn combined to take just five games
