BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University athletic department has recognized swimmer Josh Fountain and the beach volleyball pair of Carly Scarbrough and Nicole Navarro as student-athletes of the week. This is the second honor of this kind for Fountain this season.
Â
Fountain made three podium appearances and broke a school record at the 2019 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimming and Diving Championships. The weekend started with Fountain and his 800-yard freestyle relay team claiming the silver medal with an overall time of 6:39.43. Fountain would then earn the gold medal in the 500-yard freestyle with a lifetime best (4:26.93) and finished the weekend breaking the school record in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:23.58, which was enough to capture the silver medal. The redshirt freshman was one of the top swimmers for the Owls, who as a team finished as the runner up at the CCSA Championships, the best finish for the team in over a decade.
Â
Scarborough and Navarro played at the top of the Owls' lineup at the Paradise at the Burrow Tournament last weekend and went 4-0 for the weekend, dropping just one set in the process. On Friday, the pair of seniors defeated their opponents from Webber International 21-17, 21-13 before defeating No. 19 TCU's top pair in three sets. Saturday commenced with a sweep of their opponents from UNF before closing out the weekend with a 21-16, 26-24 win over Florida Southern. The duo led FAU to its first 4-0 start in program history.
